My name is Gary Strokos. A first generation farmer, I grew up in Bay Area, California. I studied sociology at Humboldt State University, where my passion for sustainability, self-reliance, and appropriate technology began. Over the past decade I’ve worked on a number of farms, learning about sustainable farm methods and production.
After moving to Portland in 2009, I fell in love with all the opportunities that farming in the Pacific Northwest provides. We’re so lucky to be able to grow such a variety year round, from elderberries and kiwis to peppers and kale. After years of dreaming about starting my own operation, my wife and I moved to Senkos Farm in February 2013 along with our dog Ari. In 2015, we welcomed our son Griffin into the world. And in 2017 we welcomed our son Sawyer.
I take pride in being a small scale family farmer- growing healthy food and being a responsible steward of the land.
